    Frannie & Justin’s Wedding

I’m lucky that so many of my clients have such thoughtful, intimate weddings. Frannie and Justin’s summer wedding was no exception; theirs was held in her parent’s backyard and proves that all you need is some giant old trees to provide shade as you exchange vows, lawn chairs spread out everywhere for your guests, your favorite beer and a great band (or two) to keep the party going. The snow cones and the late night food truck didn’t hurt.

    Simon & Lillie

This morning at a consultation meeting in the studio, I thought of Simon and Lillie’s small and intimate garden wedding. I’ll never forget the moment during the processional when Lillie’s little brother began playing Beirut’s Postcards from Italy on the ukulele. It gave me goosebumps then and the thought of it still does to this very day.

Their wedding epitomized the very idea of what a wedding should be like; your most closest friends and family witnessing you exchange vows under a setting sun, casually drinking good beer and smoking cigars, laughter bouncing off the distant rolling hills and dancing together until late into the night.

    Hannah & Benjamin

Today something about the cool, crisp spring air paired with the warm sun reminded me of this engagement session from the archives; meet Hannah and Ben, a couple that I adore and hit it off with immediately. Hannah, a fellow artist and creative soul, intuitively understood my philosophy on photography – and we were like kindred spirits. Their engagement session was so natural, so spontaneous, so honest; exactly what I aim to capture with every click of the shutter. Next, I’ll post photographs from their beautifully touching wedding.

Ohhhh Hannah!!! I love that girl. What a sweetheart. These are splendid, Jess.

    Andy & Kristin

This is Kristin and Andy; two very dear friends of mine who I worked with every single day and saw first-hand how two people can so easily, so quickly, fall hopelessly in love with each other. Sometimes love isn’t complicated, sometimes it’s just comfortable and easy – and that’s how I’ve always thought about Andy and Kristin’s love; like an old collegiate sweatshirt that’s worn-in and a little threadbare from too much wear.

I’ve never been around that many children, nor do I have many friends that have children; so watching Kristin’s stomach grow, witnessing the maturation of her growing into a new sort of woman, has been an incredible experience. When she approached me to take these portraits, I was honest and admitted that I’ve never shot pregnancy portraits before; but I knew that I had to approach them the same way I approach all my photography – simple, warm and emotional. I was so happy with these photographs and all the love that oozes from them, and I knew Kristin was as well when I saw her genuine tears upon seeing them.

It fills me with such warmth to know that this summer there will be a new little baby being taken home from a hospital, and into a home with endless love, happiness and joy. These two are going to be amazing parents.
